National
Youth Service and Social Development Research Institute
(NYSASDRI) is a registered voluntary organisation
working for the upliftment of deprived and marginal
sections in Orissa- one of the poorest states of India.
Since inception the organisation is devoted for
socio-economic empowerment of indigent people through it’s
with development programmes in the field of Food and
Livelihood Support, women empowerment, Health, Natural
Resource Management, Education, Rural Housing and
Infrastructure Development, disability, displacement and
disaster mitigation. It always adheres to the community
participation approach and hence designs its activity to
empower the community to reduce of Poverty and
Dependency Syndrome. Vulnerable section of the society-
Women, Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe, Landless,
Children, Youth, Disable People, Elderly, Disaster
Victims, and Rural Artisan- are always prioritized in
all its activities.
Similarly,
NYSASDRI emphasizes on extending development initiatives
to the remote areas where large number of deprived and
neglected people are living. Hence, it is working in a
distant and inaccessible forest patches in the central,
northern and western Orissa with a population of 2.2
million in 9 districts, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur,
Khurda, Malkangiri, Deogarh, Rayagada, Keonjhar and
Jagatsinghpur. More than 90% of the population in these
region fall below the Poverty Line.
As
a committed development agency NGO of the state, the
organisation has several milestones to its credit. It is
the first NGO in the state to raise the issue of sex
education in schools and is very successful in
advocating on the issue before the other NGOs, Media,
Politicians, Bureaucrat and civil society. It has also
established a permanent and sophisticated Eye Hospital, Kalinga
Eye Hospital and Research Centre at Dhenkanal
with
all ultra modern equipments to render comprehensive
eyecare. It has also established an educational complex
for tribal girls in Muniguda, Rayagada. More than 200
self-help groups have been formed and are being
supported by the organization. Short Stay Home, Family
Counselling Centre and Non-formal education centres
speak success of this rural based organization. Since
last three years the organization is being awarded as
the best NGO by the District Authorities.
Presently,
the organization is providing Joyful Education and
health services to the destitute children through its Crèche
Centers in Dhenkanal and Keonjhar district. The poor and
disadvantaged community members are provided Health care
services through its mobile unit and also through its
dispensaries. Comprehensive eyecare services are
provided through the eye hospital and also through
out-reach camps at various places.
In
addition NYSASDRI has also taken up several programmes
to provide Socio-Economic and Psychological Supports.
Circle of Support for Disabilities, Family Counselling
Center and Short-Stay- Home for distress women, Adopt A
Granny for elderly and Community Based Disaster
Preparedness activities to mitigate the menaces of
disaster are few of them. Programme for Sustainable
Socio-Economic Development of Tribal Community and
Capacity Building of CBOs also aimed at empowering the
community to address their own need. The organisation
attempts to improve agriculture for Sustainable
Development and food security of the rural poor.
In
all its efforts professionally skilled and committed
staffs prioritise on people-led development initiatives.
They work relentlessly to achieve its mission- to
develop the latent capacity of the poorest men and women
to address the inequalities and injustice and lead a
dignified life. Besides, transparency and accountability
towards the community and the supporting agencies are
moral fibre of the organisation.
