Old Age
Elders are assets to any society. The contribution of senior citizens to the society is indispensable. Can we imagine a land, where there is no old man? In Indian context, persons crossed the age of 60 could be known as old men. Their rich experience, invaluable ideas and free guidance are much deserving assets of a nation. They share all these with their younger generation without any hesitation. In present days, the senior citizens face several socio-psychological problems apart from physical ones, in their family and surroundings. There is a general perception among younger generation that older persons have hardly any role in socio-economic process of the society.

suffer due to the difference in social values and tradition
with the younger generation, especially in urban areas.
Those who do not have any child are the worst sufferer
of the problem. They, at the dust of life, feel helplessness
and deprived. If one of the partner has been died the
senior experience an awful life. Such situation leads
to worst psychological problem - isolation. |
Poverty, spreading of urban culture and lack of any structured social defence system has aggravated the concern to a large extent. Most of them have been forced to a lone and stressful life. In families, they are hardly cared for by their descendants. |
