Prevention is Better Than Cure

A Community-Based Disaster Preparedness Survey and Training are being organized by the organisation in its project Areas. In 2003-04, the organisation has undertaken similar programmes in 33 villages of 5 GPs of Sukinda block of Jajpur district. During the survey work, NYSASDRI staff collates data from the community and prepares the social map, resource map, hazards map and contingency plan with the active participation of the villagers. Trainers’ training programmes are also organized with collaboration with the district administration and OSDMA.

The training programmes capitalize on search and rescue, first aid, and mental health. It is planned that the trainers will train the selected youth of the villages, who can render support to the persons that will be the future sufferers of community-based disasters.
