Hein
Veerman has been awarded Master degree in International
Business from University of Maastricht The Netherlands
and volunteered for NYSASDRI from February to May 2004.
He contributed his experience and expertise on his own
behalf, without any external support or a fellowship.
During his stay in the organisation at its Head Office,
Santhasara, Dhenkanal, he conducted a research on
Community
Health Development Programme, implemented by NYSASDRI
and supported by SIMAVI. The objective was to
determine whether the pre-set objectives and goals of
the CHD Programme are attained and to enhance the
implementation strategy. The research has investigated
the knowledge, the attitude and the practices of the
people to whom the programme is targeted.
In
his final report, submitted to NYSASDRI, he has
concluded that ‘the Community Health Development
Programme is successful and highly valued’. The
community is very positive towards the programme.
He has commented that ‘most objectives seem to
be have been reached, except for one, very important
objective: the reduction of the occurrence of diseases’.
Finally,
his research report suggested to launch income
generation and economic development programmes in the
project area. Emphasis on the chlorination of wells, use
of mosquito nets, cleaning of the villages, and
vaccination (for VHGs), during the training programmes,
is also recommended.
