Community Empowerment & Advocacy for Sustainable
Healthcare for people in extreme need in Orissa (CEASH) project

Project partners are –

c. NYSASDRI, Orissa, India(Implementing agency)
Project Duration- 5 years (commenced from Sept 2004 up to August 2009)
Operational Area- 121 villages of Jajpur & Dhenkanal Districts of Central Orissa

Target Beneficiaries- More than One lakh population of Jajpur & Dhenkanal districts, particularly the vulnerable groups of Scheduled caste, Scheduled Tribe, Below Poverty Line families & women.

Focus of intervention- Project covers 6 major components of
1.

Community Empowerment- deals with formation & strengthening of various village groups such as Women Self Help Groups, Male Groups, Adolescent clubs, committees for obstetric care etc for their economic development, knowledge on health issues, awareness on general health up keeping, promotion of rights based approaches etc

2.

Strengthening of Panchayati Raj Institutes (PRI)- deals with the capacity building of PRI members for monitoring the functionality of primary Health Care at rural area through Gram Panchayat Health Committees (GPHC), sensitization about the roles of PRI on Health as per constitutional amendment of devolution of power to local governance.

3.

Service Delivery through Primary Health Centers- Through a pioneering effort of Public Private Partnerships among the various stakeholders of Govt., PRI & NGO delivering high quality primary health care at two centers of Jajpur & Dhenkanal districts.

4.

Knowledge assessment & dissemination- Research studies to be undertaken on the various parameters of service delivery & findings to be shared with larger mass to lead advocacy for development in Health system.

5.

Advocacy for Health Sector Reform- In order to influence the Govt. for Health sector reform series of state level & regional workshops are organized for rural health problem identification & task force meetings with Govt. functionaries, media persons, medical students etc, . TV spots & advocacy materials being developed would create a general sensitization of mass.

6.

Capacity building of NYSASDRI- Series of Staff development trainings, Training of Trainers (ToT), Exposure visits, Technical support of IWW etc are under progress.
