Health
Care, Everywhere
The Sukinda mines area in Jajpur district
of Orissa is severely affected by environmental
pollution of chromites that are procreated
from local mines. Besides, the area
is very inaccessible with low the per
capita income. At this juncture, NYSASDRI
felt that there is an immense necessity
to ameliorate health care assistance
to the daily labourers and wageworkers-
working in the mines area. A mobile
medical dispensary was started by the
organisation with well-experienced and
technically sound health professionals
like a doctor and a pharmacist, and
a handyman since 1997. The programme
caters comprehensive health care services
including preventative, curative, and
referral services at the doorsteps of
the target population.

Regular
Awareness campaigns on RCH, SRH, ORS, safe drinking
water, temporary birth spacing, five killer diseases
(Panchabyadhi), six killer diseases (Sasthabyadhi),
communicable diseases and AIDS are organised around
the locality. At present, 38 villages, including
5 GPs of Sukinda block, have been covered. Liaisoning
and networking activities with the health administration
and other like-minded organisation are also being
carried out to integrate the service with other
similar initiatives. |
