Advocating the Rights of the Vulnerable

NYSASDRI is one of the first NGO in the state raise the issue of sex education in schools. Through its various activities the organisation is successful in changing the knowledge, attitude and perception of different development stakeholders including NGOs, media, politicians, bureaucrats and civil society on the issue of sex education. In February 2004, a programme on ‘Sexual and Reproductive Health – Youth Advocacy Network in Orissa’ was launched by NYSASDRI with support from International Family Health, London. The project was proposed to be implemented in three districts of Orissa, namely Keonjhar, Deogarh and Malkangiri and to highlight the issues of SRH through awareness and campaigns made by trained youth advocators. The idea was to empower the vulnerable people to demand their SRH rights.
