A CASE STUDY......

Damayanti Tarasia, a woman hails from a middle class agrarian family. Among four brothers she is the only daughter of the family. Damayanti married to Padma Charan Tarasia 15 yrs back according to Hindu customs. As she is not enough good looking her husband disposed her off and Damayanti suspects he has an extra marital relation with the elder sister-in-law. The husband being a native of Badamba village works as a peon in the Tahasil office. After a month of her marriage getting into the physical assault from husband as well as from the in-law's family she returned back to her parents place. Her stay period at parents place was also of not pleasant as the brothers being persuaded by their wives had forgotten the love, affection and care to be rendered to their only sister who was with immense mental turmoil.

Experiencing such negligence from parent's family at the outset every thing looked very dark for her. Subsequently she lodged a complaint against the husband at civil court of Dhenkanal. This case was finalized in the year 1998 ordering separation between the wife and husband and with a clause of provision of Rs200/ per month to Damayanty as alimony from Padma. In due course of time Padma gave this alimony up to five years and then stopped. Damayanty getting to know about the mediation of FCC on such situations approached for a help and the counselors making individual, session meetings and home visits extensively counseled Padma to release the duly agreed principle of court. Rejoicing presently Damayanti is in a position to receive the alimony, for which husband has already consented.
