Innocent Dreams Come True
Radha Gadika is a Kondh tribal girl
from Jugapada village of Bissam-Cuttack
block of Rayagada district. Her father
died three years back, leaving her
mother,brother and two sisters. The
family depends upon the drudgery of
wage work as they have hardly any
assets to maintain its livelihood.
Her mother, Lachhma.Saraka, is the
only bread earner in the family. And
hence her brother, sister and she
herself were regularly engaged in
helping their mother to add up some
thing to their family economics.Like
other existing social problems in
India, poverty and economic deprivation
are the most important impediment
on the way of educating Radha. Instead
of sending her to school, Lachhma
was preferring to send her to forest
for collecting minor forest produces
and wood or force them for the drudgery
of wage work.

It
does not mean that she was not interested for
her children’s education. However, she was
helpless due to her economic restrictions. She
was struggling for her immediate requirements
and hence opted to attain it by the labour of
her children to a little extent. This is the broad
reason for the problems like, tribal children
are being engaged in several labour intensive
activities such as cattle rearing and household
activities like caring their younger brother and
sister, watching the crop, when their parents
go for work. Most of the children have not visited
school. Those who go to school drop themselves
from education at best after class three. School
dropout is very rampart in these poor families.
In addition to this gender disparity in home made
education a daydream for girls. |
However, Radha was destined to get quality education. When the staff of the Educational Complex, at Muniguda, reached her and motivated her mother for education she was a little bit undecided to send Radha to school. The reason was obvious- fear of affording the cost of education. So the school selected this innocent and ambitious child to get sponsorship- Rs 300.00 per month by the Hindu Society Canada. Her dream of going to school was materialized. |
Now, she is studying in class- III and is one of the happy and content children learning in the Educational Complex. This year she will move to class- IV. She is a regular and humble student staying in the hostel. She maintains proper sanitation and is very social. |
Her fear to come to the mainstream is disappearing day by day. The free accommodation, food, cloth, learning materials and health are the additional benefits for her. At least, her admission in the school has relieved the burden of her poor and impoverished families. |
She had shown her excellence in the field of not only education but also in other extra curricular activities. She feels herself very fortunate because she is among the few fortunate tribal girls- who are successful in getting the opportunity to see the lights of education. |
With an objective to spread education among Tribal girls and help disadvantaged people like Radha NYSASDRI has established residential Educational Complex- catering education at primary level at Hukumtola village near Muniguda, Rayagada. Besides, education the organisation also provides additional services such as primary health care, nutritious food, free accommodation, dress and teaching learning material (TLM) and others. The complex has established as a model in the district and has attracted appreciation by several dignitaries. There are 90 girls- getting education the school. |
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India helped the organisation to establish this teaching hub in a remote area. NYSASDRI is also very thankful to The Hindu Society, Canada and other individuals as well as organizations for their indispensable cooperation to put smiles in the faces of tribal students, who have never thought about education. |
