About Us
NYSASDRI is a registered voluntary organisation. It works for the upliftment of deprived and marginal sections in Orissa. Orissa is one of the poorest states of India. Since inception NYSASDRI is devoted for socio-economic empowerment of indigent people through its development programmes in the field of Food and Livelihood Support, women empowerment, Health, Natural Resources Management, Education, Rural Housing and Infrastructure Development, disability, displacement and disaster mitigation. It always adheres to the community participation approach. Hence it designs activity to empower the community to reduce of Poverty and Dependency Syndrome.

Vulnerable sections of the society viz. Women, Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe, Landless, Children, Youth, Disable People, Elderly, Disaster Victims, and Rural Artisan are always prioritized in all its activities. Similarly, NYSASDRI emphasizes on extending development initiatives to the remote areas, where large number of deprived and neglected people are living. Presently it is working in the central, northern and western Orissa with more than 3 million populations in 9 districts viz. Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Kendujhar. NYSASDRI has gone through several milestones to its credit. It is the first NGO in the state to raise the issue of sexual health education in schools and is very successful in advocating on the issue before the other NGOs, Media, Politicians, Bureaucrat and civil society. It has also established Kalinga Eye Hospital and Research Centre at Dhenkanal with all ultra modern equipments to render comprehensive eye care. It has also established an educational complex for tribal girls in Bissamkatak block of Rayagada district. More than 200 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed and are being supported by the organisation. Short Stay Home, Family Counselling Centre and Non-formal education centres speak success of its base with rural communities. District Administration awarded NYSASDRI as the best NGO consecutively in the year 1992-93, 1994-95 & 1995-96. |
Promoting Joyful learning and providing health services for the destitute children through Crèche in Dhenkanal and Kendujhar districts are some other notable activities. Health care services have been ensured to the poor and disadvantaged communities through its Mobile Health Unit and dispensaries. Comprehensive eye care services are provided at the eye hospital and through outreach camps at various places. |
| NYSASDRI has taken up several programmes to provide Socio-Economic and Psychological Supports. Circle of Support for Disabilities, Family Counselling Centre and Short-Stay- Home for distress women; adopt a Granny for elderly and Community Based Disaster Preparedness activities to mitigate the hazards of disaster. Programme for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Tribal Community and Capacity Building of CBOs are also aimed at empowering the community to address their own need. NYSASDRI attempts to improve agriculture for Sustainable Development and food security of the rural poor. |
